Aged Hands

What are Aged Hands?

Aged hands refer to the visible signs of aging that occur on the skin of the hands. As we age, the skin on our hands becomes thinner, loses elasticity, and may develop wrinkles, age spots, or prominent veins. These changes can make the hands appear older and less vibrant.

What Causes Aged Hands?

  • Natural Aging Process: Like other parts of the body, the skin on our hands undergoes changes as we age. The production of collagen and elastin decreases, leading to thinning and loss of skin elasticity. This can result in wrinkling and the appearance of fine lines.
  • Sun Exposure: Prolonged and unprotected exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays can accelerate the ageing process of the hands. UV radiation damages the skin cells, breaks down collagen and elastin fibres, and contributes to the formation of age spots.
  • Hand Care: Neglecting proper hand care, such as not moisturising regularly or using harsh soaps, can contribute to dryness and accelerated ageing of the hands.
  • Lifestyle Factors: Factors like smoking, poor nutrition, and certain medical conditions can also affect the health and appearance of the skin on the hands.
