Aged Skin

What is Aged Skin?
Aged skin refers to the changes that occur in the skin as a natural part of the ageing process. It is characterised by various visible signs, including wrinkles, fine lines, loss of elasticity, uneven tone, and texture. Aged skin can make a person appear older and may affect their self-confidence.
Why Does Aged Skin Occur?
- Intrinsic Ageing: Intrinsic ageing is the natural ageing process that happens over time. As we age, the production of collagen and elastin, which are responsible for skin elasticity and firmness, slows down. The skin becomes thinner, drier, and less able to retain moisture, leading to the formation of wrinkles and fine lines.
- Extrinsic Ageing: Extrinsic ageing is influenced by external factors, such as sun exposure, pollution, smoking, and poor lifestyle habits. UV radiation from the sun is a significant contributor to premature ageing. It damages collagen and elastin fibers, causes uneven pigmentation, and increases the risk of skin cancers. Other lifestyle factors like smoking and an unhealthy diet can also accelerate the ageing process.
- Loss of Hyaluronic Acid: Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance that helps the skin retain moisture and maintain its plumpness. As we age, the production of hyaluronic acid decreases, leading to drier and less supple skin
