What are Forehead Lines?

Forehead lines, also known as forehead wrinkles or worry lines, are the horizontal lines that appear on the forehead. They are a common sign of ageing and can be caused by a combination of factors, including facial expressions and the natural loss of elasticity in the skin.

Why Do Forehead Lines Occur?

• Facial Expressions: Repeated facial expressions, such as raising the eyebrows or frowning, can contribute to the formation of forehead lines over time. These expressions cause the underlying muscles to contract, leading to the development of lines on the forehead.
• Ageing and Reduced Collagen Production: As we age, there is a natural decrease in the production of collagen and elastin in the skin. These proteins are responsible for maintaining the skin’s elasticity and smoothness. With less collagen, the skin becomes more prone to developing lines and wrinkles, including forehead lines.
• Sun Exposure: Prolonged sun exposure without adequate protection can accelerate the breakdown of collagen and elastin fibres, making the skin more susceptible to the formation of forehead lines.
