Wrinkles

What are Wrinkles?

Wrinkles are creases, lines, or folds that appear on the skin as a natural part of the ageing process. They can occur due to various factors, including repetitive facial expressions, loss of skin elasticity, and environmental factors such as sun damage and smoking.

Why Do Wrinkles Occur?

Ageing and Reduced Skin Elasticity: As we age, the production of collagen and elastin in the skin decreases, leading to a loss of skin elasticity. This results in the formation of wrinkles, including fine lines and deeper creases.

Facial Expressions: Repetitive facial expressions, such as squinting, frowning, or smiling, can cause dynamic wrinkles to form over time. These wrinkles are visible when the facial muscles contract.

Muscle Overactivity: The development of facial wrinkles can often be attributed to the overactivity of certain muscles. When these muscles contract repeatedly over time, they can create visible lines and wrinkles on the skin’s surface, leading to an aged or tired appearance.

Sun Exposure: Prolonged and unprotected sun exposure can accelerate the ageing process and contribute to the development of wrinkles. Ultraviolet (UV) radiation damages the collagen and elastin fibres in the skin, leading to the breakdown of its supportive structure.

Lifestyle Factors: Smoking, poor nutrition, and chronic dehydration can also contribute to the formation of wrinkles and premature ageing of the skin.
